I did it! I made my need for organization and desire to learn how to build things combine into this mitten storage beauty!

Enter in our easy DIY Mitten Storage!

I was of course hunting through pinterest and came across this tutorial on this mitten storage and it was so well written I thought I could actually do that. So away I went, on the hunt for the correct tools to borrow. I forgot to take pictures when I was cutting the wood in the zig zag shape.

This was the first pic I took of my mitten storage slowly coming together. EEEEEKK! I can’t wait to have my mudroom organized 🙂

First things first I attempted a homemade stain made from rusty steel wool and vinegar.

Ignore my disaster of a garage, I took over my hubbies space and made a complete mess of it…oops.

This was the look of the original stain before I put the numbers on with sharpie. But I wasn’t happy with the look so I added another stain to my soon to be mitten storage. (I have an old silhouette machine that I used to cut the letters out creating a stencil)

I wanted the look to be a bit darker so I borrowed some stained Briwax from my neighbor and that was what gave me the color I wanted.

Side note….I used a scrap piece of wood to make the ruler at the same time.

The boys are so excited for their new mitten storage!

My new EASY DIY Mitten Storage is finally on the wall and I am ecstatic!

Just so you all know, this has been up in my home now for over a year and it is still just as amazing as the first day it went up.

My boys use it all the time and they know the numbers that are theirs. They have taken complete ownership of them and I love it!

  1. I’ve had one of these storage racks pinned to my “to make” board for years but I just can’t figure out the perfect place to put it. Yours looks fantastic here as a mittens holder! xx
